Warsaw Uniwesity of Technology:

HISTORY

Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) is one of the largest institutions of higher education in the Central Europe. The University was founded in 1826 as the Preparatory School for the Institute of Technology and closed down in 1831 by Russian occupants. It was reopened by the Russians in 1898 and then governed by them until the first years of World War I. In 1915 the University was transformed into a truly Polish academic school; since 1915 it has been called by its present name: Warsaw University of Technology. During World War II the School was closed down by the Nazis who occupied Poland, and its buildings were completely destroyed or burned down during the Warsaw Uprising (August-October 1944). After World War II despite severe losses the School was quickly reopened by the end of 1945. Within several years Warsaw University of Technology became the largest leading academic school in Poland and an institution of the highest standing for advanced technological education in the country.
